dartman - I'm afraid you would bet wrong. The Yam comes with plenty of metal for the money and there is a huge number of decent factory accessories available (including light bezels made of brass!). Harley is of course 'THE' iconic cruiser marque, but they didn't invent cruisers and certainly didn't invent the 'bobber' style concept. Yamaha is benchmarking and pitching directly against the 883, just like you would expect any successful auto-manufacturer to do against their target competition. This doesn't; however, make the Yamaha simply a '....total rip off version of the Harley.'
Personally, I'm happy to give any marque a go (including H-D) if the bike is right for me. Some Harley riders though need to look past their bias and accept that they are riding a Harley because it is a Harley (which is just fine) and the attention and 'kudos' that comes with it from Joe Public. If you were more interested in the ride, you would be less inclined to write a cruiser off just because it isn't a Harley.

The Yamaha has more power and handles better but the styling is a total rip off version of the Harley but it falls short.
I bet most of the cycle parts are cheap nasty plastic as well. the Harley has style and kudos that the Yamaha will never have!

I agree about the vn900 though, the blacked out limited edition one looks and goes great.

No VN900 Custom?
So you used a Speedmaster but compeltely ignored the Kawasaki VN900 Custom? With it's drag bars and stripped back looks the VN would have been a much better match in this category, especially for anyone looking to buy this type of bike.

I assume you mean
when you say "you don't feel every crevice that your riding over, like the Yamaha", your are in fact referring to the Harley?
