HJC IS-17 helmet, £139.99
Time tested: Five months/1400 miles
What’s good? For a relatively budget-priced helmet, I’ve been really impressed with this HJC. It has an integral sun visor, comes with a free Pinlock anti-fog insert, and it looks lovely, with a metallic-effect white gloss paintjob. I’ve mainly used it for commuting and riding around town and it offers good visibility and air flow through effective vents and the fit is snug and comfortable. Over longer runs, it’s lightweight enough that I never get neck ache, even sitting pillion on a tall bike for over 100 miles. I’m a beginner rider and it’s ticked all the boxes I need.
What’s not? It lets in a fair amount of wind noise, so earplugs are essential. The only other problem I’ve had is with a misted sun visor, but I’ve used Fogtech anti-fog wipes (www.visorvision.co.uk) to stop it.
