Alpinestars Toucan GTX boots, £349.99
Time tested: One year, 10,000 miles
What’s good? These bad-boys are tough, robust and waterproof thanks to a Gore-Tex membrane - exactly what you want from an adventure boot. Alpinestars have put serious thought into safety, the motocross-style boots come with heavy-duty shin and ankle protection. The heel and toes are also doubled up and the boots are CE-certified. The high-quality boots aren’t stiff, clumsy or heavy like you’d expect, they are breathable and once broken in they’re comfortable to walk in. Riding is easy and standing up on the pegs is effortless thanks to their added support. They slip on quickly enough with two sturdy buckles and a quick velcro tab. I’ve ridden through torrential rain and had them in water past my ankles without a leak. They’ve accompanied me on a 1000-mile ride to the Italian Alps for a 24-hour off-road rally, enduro rides and long motorway journeys - and I wouldn’t have swapped them for anything. The Toucans are a do-it-all boot, they make the perfect companion for adventure riding and they look great too.
What’s not? The £349.99 tag is a premium one, but it’s worthwhile money if you want the added protection, but you won’t be swapping these for a long time so they will make a good investment.
