Q. MY 1996 BMW R1100GS handlebars are looking rather rusty and tatty. I would like to change them to some tasty Renthal Fat Bars if possible. Can this be done whilst retaining the original heated grips and bar end weights?
Chris Sanders, e-mail

A. Renthal doesn’t supply bars for your bike, but Magura do. They are 25mm in diameter and are the same height and inclination as the later 1200GS model, more like KTM bars. But they are set up to take your original heated grips and cabling with all the right holes and clips etc, so it should be relatively simple job to swap them over.
The complete kit includes different brackets to ensure a good fit on the yokes and costs ₤165 all in from Touratech by mail order on 01792-816660.
