Rizoma Proguard lever protectors, £85

Time used: Two months

What’s good? These are designed to protect front brake and clutch levers from being jammed on when bikes and riders collide in racing. On the brake side, they’re compulsory in national and world championship road racing, but they’re a good idea for club racing and trackdays as the risks are just the same. I use them on my racing BMW HP4 (with the £9 adapter kit so they fit my Alpha Racing clip-on handlebars) and they’ve already come in useful. I slipped off at the Esses at Snetterton and they protected the brake lever from damage, as well as the throttle tube and grip. They’re beautifully made and I don’t notice they’re there when I’m riding.

What’s not? They’re a touch expensive, but if you are in a collision or crash you’ll be glad you fitted them.
