Q. Dear Chris, I was recently involved in a low-speed traffic accident. A car drove into the back of my bike at a pedestrian crossing. The tyre seems undamaged, but since it took most of the impact I’m worried it may be damaged. How can I tell? Will I have to replace it?

A. If it was a truly low-speed collision and the tyre has no external marks where the impact was, then the carcass should still be good. But be aware of any new vibration coming from that end when you get the bike back on the road. If they have admitted liability, then you can get the tyre removed, checked and maybe replaced as part of the settlement
