Don't get done by poor servicing

About 12 months ago Pete Hales bought an 06-plate Triumph ST1050 from an authorised dealer. It had had one owner from new with full service history from the dealer who he bought it from. The bike had been recently serviced and had a full MOT.
“I have just had the four year service done by the same dealer. During the service they broke one of the spark plugs off, so the engine had to be removed and sent away to be fixed, resulting in an additional £300 cost on the service which I had to pay. They told me this was a common fault with these bikes due to poor sealing.
"I wrote to Triumph who told me that it was not a common fault, and if the bike is serviced properly there should be no problem. What I would like to know is who should pay for the repair, surely I shouldn't.”
Under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 he would have reasonable grounds for pursuing a claim against the dealer for the £300 additional repair costs. The Act requires the dealer to exercise reasonable skill and care when carrying out the work to the bike. It seems they haven’t done so and therefore he shouldn’t have to pay the additional service/repair costs connected with the broken spark plugs.
