Morais enjoying life in BSB paddock

South African rider Sheridan Morais has made a huge impression on the BSB paddock so far, taking second place in both dry practice sessions at Brands Hatch. The PBM Kawasaki rider is having only his second outing on the bike, having previously guested for the team at the South African WSB round, but is doing his case no harm as he searches for a full time round in 2010.

“I’ve always enjoyed BSB whether it’s the atmosphere or the people that run it – it’s a great championship. Obviously at world level you have the language barrier to contend with but here you don’t have that and it’s a pleasure to be here.”

“It’s only my second time on the bike and at Kyalami you lose 20% of the bikes power due to the altitude so it’s almost like riding a different bike here. I’ve just been trying to get used to the speed of the bike and trying to stop it wheelying everywhere. We’ve been running on the harder tyres, concentrating on finding a race set-up and I’m happy with how it’s been going so far. I’m sure with the softer tyres, the times will drop a fair bit in qualifying.”

The 24-year old recently took sixth in the World Supersport race at Brno for the Yamaha Indonesia team and is also currently leading his domestic Superbike (ran to Superstock rules) and Supersport classes whilst he also has further experience at World level in the European Superstock class. With the season approaching contract time, the diminutive Johannesburg rider is doing all he can to secure a full time ride back on the World stage in 2010.

“PBM are obviously looking at riders for 2010 so if I can do well here, who knows, it may lead into something for next year – they’re such a great team that I’d love that to happen. I’ve ridden for teams in the past that haven’t had the budget so the most important thing for me is to get a ride with a team who can do the job properly. The World Championship series is obviously where I want to be but I’d take a serious look at BSB too.”

Morais is also very much at home with the Brands GP circuit. “I love Brands and it’s similar to the tracks at home – lots of up and downs and a track that requires a lot of commitment and balls! It’s great fun to ride.”
