Snetterton BSS: Seeley takes championship lead with double victory

Alastair Seeley piloted his Gearlink Kawasaki to a double supersport success at Snetterton, taking Sunday’s race win in easy fashion by over 3 seconds from teammate Ben Wilson.

Samsung Honda racer Jason O’Halloran was the early leader, winning the drag race into the first corner. However, the Gearlink Kawasaki duo of Ben Wilson and Alastair Seeley were on hand to put him under pressure with all three trading places over the opening two laps.

O’Halloran soon had drama, when the bellypan and side fairing of his Honda were dramatically jettisoned, forcing the race organisers to bring out the black and orange flag to retire the Aussie from second.

Alastair Seely and Ben Wilson were then able to pull a gap out, with the Northern Irishman pulling 1.2 seconds from his teammate, with Billy McConnell filling out the podium.

The race then settled into a fairly lonely affair for the front runners, with Seeley extending his lead out to three seconds, with Wilson a further 2.3 seconds ahead of McConnell and Gowland, another 1.4 seconds back.

A late push from McConnell closed in the gap to 1.5 seconds, before Wilson was able to respond and rein back in some of his lead to maintain the order to the flag.

Luke Mossey was fifth and Taylor MacKenzie sixth, with an eight second gap separating them from the rest of the top ten.

The weekend was a disaster for yesterday’s championship leader Stuart Easton, who finished a dismal 13th place, losing his championship lead to Seeley.
