BSB Assen: Ellison takes race two as Lowes disqualified!

James Ellison has won the second MCE British Superbike race at Assen under dramatic circumstances, after race one winner Alex Lowes was stripped of his race two win.

Lowes and Shane Byrne looked set to continue their epic battle from race one when Lowes ran wide on lap four lookin to set up an overtake on Byrne, colliding with the Kawasaki rider and knocking him off.

Lowes was able to continue, after initially dropping back to fourth, and regrouped to take the chequered flag first only for race direction to strip away the victory.

This left Ellison to take the win from PJ Jacobsen and Ryuichi Kiyonari, as the American rookie made his debut British Superbike podium. Third for Kiyonari keeps his slim championship hopes alive after a disasterous first race.

There were a number of other high profile fallers, with title fighter Josh Brookes falling out of fourth while chasing down teammate Jacobsen, while an ill-timed overtake from Tommy Bridewell took off both him and Nori Haga, almost simultaneously to the Lowes/Byrne incident.
