Walker impressed with GBmoto bike at Donington

Veteran MCE BSB racer Chris Walker says he’s come away from the first ‘proper’ test of the year against the majority of his season rivals feeling impressed with the GBmoto Kawasaki, and believing he can now be a genuine threat to the title favourites.

Finishing the day fourth fastest to only Shane Byrne, Josh Brookes and Jaukb Smrz, the forty two year old was less than a second off the front pace, and says there’s still lots to develeop with the all-new GBmoto package.

“To be honest, it was a really good day for us. You come back from somewhere like Almeria and never really know where you are – it felt like a private test, with only half a dozen superbikes going around. So to be able to come here – somewhere that although I love it, I haven’t exactly pedalled the bike the best around in the past few years – and have the bike feeling so good right away, was mega. I’m well chuffed!”

“I was impressed with the speed of the bike; our engine tuner is good, but this was still his first stab at the bike. There’s a different engine spec, potentially for one of us to try at Snetterton, but we’ll have to wait and see how that goes. We did make a step today with the electronics, which made a big difference for me.”

“We haven’t really altered a great deal from where we were in Spain, just played with the fork springs, and to be honest I’m surprised how high up I am, but we just hope that we can keep it going now. This is one track, though, and Snetterton is another; the more tracks we come away from now feeling happy with the package the more confident we’ll feel.”

“I didn’t go quite as fast as I’d hoped right at the end today, but we did a lot of laps around the same time – 1:31s and a few in the 1:30s – and when you get a few like that that’s definitely good for the confidence, and shows what the bike’s capable of.”
