No surprises in BSB Brands test as Shakey goes fastest

There were no surprises in the one-hour test session that kicks off the opening weekend of the 2014 MCE British Superbike season, as Shane Byrne took the top spot with a late fast lap from Josh Brookes.

Byrne, who spent most of the session inside the top six, repeated the technique he’s perfected in pre-season testing, with a late group of fast laps that left him 0.125 clear of the Australian.

It was a good session for his teammate Stuart Easton as well, leading for a long time before eventually finishing in third on the second of the Rapid Solicitors Kawasakis, 0.1 behind Brookes and 0.1 ahead of the GBmoto Kawasaki of Chris Walker.

Ryuichi Kiyonari was fifth, as the former triple champion finds his form on the Buildbase BMW, while returning runner-up John Hopkins was sixth.

The one-hour session was the only track action of the day for the superbikes, with the weekend kicking off proper tomorrow with two free practice sessions.
