TONFANAU, GWYNEDD, SUNDAY

Crewe and South Cheshire unfortunately had to cancel their last road race meeting of 2009 due to oil spillage on the track. The sweeper was going around the circuit on Saturday and deposited oil. A tremendous effort was made by all the riders, spectators, marshalls as well as a five hour attendance by the local firebrigade to try and make the track safe – but it was agreed to cancel the meeting.

Ninety-nine per cent of the riders donated their entry fees to help towards the cost of the clear-up plus one of the stall-holders donating two helmets which were raffled off.

The club would like to thank everyone for their help and for the cash donations made in these difficult financial times.

BRANDS HATCH, KENT, SUNDAY-MONDAY

Wayne Ryan seized the lead of the Aprilia Superteen championship from Andy Reid for the first time since the start of the season with four superb podium finishes at the Thundersport GB round at Brands Hatch.

Just a quarter of a second covered the first three in both Sunday’s races with 13 year-olds Lee Jackson and Australian import Mathew Davies sharing the wins. Second and third were enough to give Ryan, another 13 year-old, the series lead as Reid could only manage a pair of sixths for his considerable efforts.

Monday’s encounters were vintage Superteen scraps as groups of five and six riders fought for every spare inch of track in both races with the luckless Reid again forced to settle for two sixths. Davies claimed both wins in superb style, out dragging Jackson to the line in race one and holding off Ryan in a red flagged second event.

Evergreen Peter Baker extended his lead in the GP1 championship despite having to settle for second behind Lee Keeble’s R1 Yamaha in both Monday’s races. Fastest lap in race one was scant consolation for Rob Hoyles who suffered a heavy fall at Paddock in race one and ran off the track at Druids in race two.

15 year-old Sam Hornsey won both GP3 races on his Honda to close the gap to series leader Fraser Rogers to 26 points. 13 year-old Rogers, the reigning Superteen champion finished third behind Red Bull Rookie Danny Kent in race one and inherited second on the last lap of race two when Kent retired on the Cooper straight.

RAF technician Tom Gazzard narrowed the gap on series leader Daniel Miles with two wins in the white hot Superstock 600 class that saw the top 9 riders lapping under 50 seconds.
