1 of 4

Britain’s James Toseland recorded an historic double victory today and the first of his World Superbike career as he won race two by only 1.686secs ahead of a feisty Noriyuki Haga.

The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda could not have imagined a better end to racing in Britain in the World Superbike Championship and he was certainly emotional in front of his home crowd.

In traditional style Toseland gave away his protective clothing, including his leathers, helmet and gloves, on the warming down lap, much to the delight of the thousands of fans at Brands Hatch.

Yamaha’s Noriyuki Haga went in to the lead from the start but Britain’s James Toseland remained the hero of the hour as he took the lead at Stirling before the end of lap one. Noriyuki Haga was then behind Toseland with Ducati’s Troy Bayliss third.

On lap two James Toseland’s lead was 0.406 in front of Haga with Yukio Kagayama moving up to fourth. toseland also posted the first fastest lap with a 1:26.689.

Lap four saw Troy Corser overtake Troy Bayliss, who continued to slide down the places.

Noriyuki Haga put the British fans’ hearts in their mouths by passing Toseland on lap five at Graham Hill bend. but James Toseland fought back and retook the lead going in to the Brabham Straight.

On lap seven Alsatre Suzuki’s Max Biaggi was forced to take a ride-through penalty for a jump start. He went down to 17th but managed to get up to eighth by the end.

But the excitement between James Toseland and Noriyuki Haga had not stopped as the Yamaha rider passed Toseland at Hawthorn on lap 11. But once again Toseland fought back and reclaimed first place on Brabham Straight again on lap 14.

With Troy Corser closing in on the leading pair it was tight all the way to the finish.

But much to the delight of the Brands Hatch corwd, James Toseland seured the victory and began the celebrations.
