British Superbikes: Alex Camier replaces Peter Hickman on Hawk Kawasaki ZX-10

There will be two Camiers racing in British Superbikes this weekend at Croft when Alex lines up on the same grid as elder brother Leon. 

Alex Camier, who celebrated his 19th birthday on July 18, is replacing Peter Hickman in the Hawk Kawasaki team while Leon continues on the Bike Animal Honda.

Hawk Kawasaki team boss Stuart Hicken said: “Peter, for whatever reason has not been performing – and hasn’t done so since his crash at Silverstone. I think our bikes are potential top three finishing bikes with the right jockey on board and we need to get results.

“I know Scott (Smart) isn’t finishing top three either but he’s gradually regaining his lost confidence and is doing a good job for us.”

Peter Hickman’s form began to suffer after he bumped his head in the Silverstone crash so the team asked British Superbike series doctor Toby Branfoot to take a look at him.

He recommended Hawk Kawasaki get a neuro surgeon to check Peter Hickman out, which they did, but found nothing amiss.

But Peter Hickman has suffered a loss of confidence since the crash, and has been off the kind of pace he showed last year on the Hawk Kawasaki bike.

Stuart Hicken has now promoted Alex Camier from the team’s Supersport bike to the ZX-10 and said: “The lad has a year of racing in the All Japan Superbike series (on a Moriwaki Honda) and has been riding in the GSX-R750 series and on our supersport bike so he’s bike alert too.
