The emergence of young talent like Casey Stoner and Chris Vermeulen has proven

This is according to legendary Aussie crew chief Jerry Burgess, who is working with former champion, Valentino Rossi to try and reclaim the title.

Burgess said: “Chris Vermeulen and Casey Stoner are only going to be better based on the one year of experience they have. And they are getting 17 races a season to get experience and not eight.

“It can only help with people doing a lot more riding than 20 years ago. We have seen some great things from both of them.

“Chris had two pole positions and led the race for a long time in Laguna. He did a good job in Phillip Island and he can be very proud of that.”
Burgess in a big fan of Stoner’s too and he added: “Casey likewise had some good rides and he didn’t have the best pre-season last year with the time he had to take off.

“He came back and rode very well. He lost his way a bit but it sends a message to them, and if they are clever they realise the reason why their season went the way it did and they comeback a year later and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“Both of those guys are not going to go away.”
