Brno World Superbikes: Haga takes pole with incredible sub two minute lap

1 of 1

Noriyuki Haga expressed his surprise at his Superpole time where he became the first man ever to lap under two minutes around the Brno track on a Superbike.

Having qualified fastest the Yamaha man started last in Superpole and had Biaggi’s impressive 2:00.18 lap to beat. From the first split he was up and as his perfect lap continued he extended his advantage to get one over his bitter rival.

Haga said: “I did a two minute lap in Free Practice and then put on a qualifying tyre but didn’t improve so I did not think about doing a 1:59 lap. I still can’t believe that I’ve done a 1:59.6. This is just one lap though and if the temperature stays hot tomorrow this will be a very tough race.”

Third position went to Australian Troy Bayliss who looked set to overhaul Biaggi, but lost time during the final split which includes the long, steep up hill drag to the final chicane.

Britain’s James Toseland secured his place on the front row with a good lap and remains in confident mood having completed another impressive race run during Free Practice.

Yukio Kagayama managed to salvage the fifth fastest time despite two massive moments on his Superpole lap. The Japanese Alstare Suzuki rider ran of the track once and then lost the front later in the lap but was still somehow able to hold on to fifth spot.
