Sepang MotoGP: Dani Pedrosa confident after Malaysia pole position

Spaniard Dani Pedrosa said he is confident of converting his impressive qualifying form into a positive race result in tomorrow’s Malaysian GP in Sepang.

The Repsol Honda claimed his third successive pole position today in the searing heat in Sepang, and he’s hopeful of mounting a serious challenge in the 21-lap race as he goes in search of only his second victory of 2007.

Pedrosa crashed out the Japanese GP after claiming pole and faded to fourth last weekend in Australia after heading qualifying.

And he is hoping it will be third time lucky tomorrow. “It’s great to have three pole positions in a row but I would like things to go on race day like they do in qualifying. We have to look for something more on the bike but we also have to wait for the conditions also. I hope it stays dry but we must look for something more anyway from the bike. We still have to choose the race tyre too. We must wait but more or less we have a tyre that we like so I hope it works well because it will be tough in the hot conditions, “said Pedrosa, on a day where track temperatures peaked at a scorching 50 degrees.

The triple world champion said Sepang’s new surface had added to the challenge of the Malaysia circuit, saying the track was unpredictable in the changing weather conditions.

“The track is changing all the time. It is bumpier now than before but it is the same for everybody. We must try and find the best set-up for tomorrow and push at the maximum. I’ve done a lot of tests here but with the new surface you have to learn again the track a little bit more because the bumps are in different places.
