Cadwell Park British Superbikes: Karl Harris has another painful weekend

Karl Harris must be praying for the season to come to a close after yet another dismal British Superbike weekend at Cadwell Park. The Sheffield rider crashed out of race one on lap three at the bottom of the Mountain, crushing the end of his little finger in the process.

“I’ve shattered a few bones and the nail has come off my little finger on my left hand when I hit the barrier,” said Harris. “I had a few injections in it so I thought it would be fine for race two.”

It isn’t clear yet if Harris will have to have the end of his finger removed, and it appeared to cause him pain during race two as he dropped back from fifth to tenth quite rapidly.

However, it appeared to be a different problem that hounded Harris’ race two. He added: “I got a good start in the second race and felt ok for the opening laps, I made some really good progress but then I just lost all my rear grip.

“I was really struggling to keep it going but I was determined to finish the race.”

The race weekend caps off a torrid 2008 for the Rob McElnea Yamaha squad, as the man in charge said himself. “From the high’s of Knockhill we are back down to the lows,” said McElnea. “Karl made a mistake in Race 1 that really cost us any chance of a good result this weekend.

“We had a problem with the tyre spinning on the rim in the latter half of Race 2, which just about summed up our weekend for us. Once again we will pick ourselves up and move on to the race at Croft.”
