Motocross: Mallory Park to host British Motocross Grand Prix

1 of 1

Mallory Park will host this year’s British Motocross Grand Prix and is set to sign an agreement which will see the event return to the Leicestershire track for a further three years.

The event will be on May 31 and June 1 with world championship racing at Mallory Park just one of the big changes taking place at the midlands based circuit for 2008.

The venue has already started work on improved viewing for spectators and safety for competitors on the road circuit.

A Rallycross/Supermoto track is also being factored into the changes and the all-new British Motocross GP track layout will take the place of the current motocross circuit.

The UK will also host the most prestigious race of the motocross calendar with the Red Bull Motocross of Nations being held at Donington Park on September 27 and 28.

The Motocross of Nations is an annual event frequently labelled the Olympics of Motocross, where riders compete for their countries rather than for individual glory.

Originally the event had been scheduled to take place in Northern Ireland, but doubts over the capability of the proposed site to handle the size of crowd that an MXoN typically attracts led to a rethink and a search for an alternative venue – the search ended when Donington Park stepped forward.
