Stoner dominates opening day at Laguna Seca

Casey Stoner has dominated the second free practice session on the opening day of the Laguna Seca MotoGP.

Stoner, who already toppped the morning session, took the top spot as soon as he had completed his first lap and didn’t let it go once throughout the hour long session.

Just eight minutes in to the session Stoner was laping at 1:22.560, but it wasn’t until the session was restarted, after Anthony West’s crash brought out the red flag, that Stoner really started to show his form.

On just his second lap back out on track the Australian had broken the 1:22 barrier with a 1:21.928 and then as if to prove a point he went on to knock another tenth off on his final lap to finish with 1:21.826, the new fastest lap of the circuit.

Nicky Hayden spent much of the session over a second and a half down on Stoner but put in a storming final lap to push himself up to second fastest just ahead of third placed man Valentino Rossi.
