Assen MotoGP: Bradley Smith to start from second in 125GP

Britain’s Bradley Smith will start tomorrow’s Assen 125GP from second on the grid after cold conditions at the Netherland’s circuit failed to change the majority of the grid from yesterday’s first qualifying session.

Smith was seventh in this afternoon’s session, but it was yesterday’s best time of 1:45.873 that sees him line up beside pole man and fellow Aprilia rider Simone Corsi.

Joan Olive and Mike di Meglio make up the rest of the front row on their Derbi’s and France’s di Meglio was one of several riders to crash out of this afternoon’s session unhurt.

Donington Park winner Scott Redding put in an impressive performance in the second qualifying session and was the fastest rider out on track in the second qualifying session. Although the 15-year-old did not improve on his already great sixth place, he reminded the field what he did just five days ago.

Only nine riders of the 38 managed to improve on their first qualifying session times.
