WSB men already faster than AMA regulars

It took just two sessions for the World Superbike contenders to beat the best times set by the American Superbike regulars at the Miller Motorsport Park.

Xerox Ducati’s Troy Bayliss set the benchmark and provisional pole with a best lap of 1min 49.394secs with both Troy Corser and Jacob Smrtz also dipping under the AMA race record.

The World Superbike men have just one other time to beat of 1min 49.167secs, which was set by Suzuki’s Ben Spies in 2006 using a qualifying tyre.

The World Superbike regulars won’t get to try a qualifier until tomorrow afternoon in t6he third free practice and Superpole, but if they continue to progress as fast as they have been they could easily break the outright track record on a race tyre in tomorrow’s final qualifying session.

After the opening day the top six men are already in the 1min 49secs with Troy Corser predicting that they will be able to get in to the 1min 48secs on a race tyre.
