Magny Cours World Supersport: Andrew Pitt takes win and championship

Hannspree Honda rider Andrew Pitt has taken the World Supersport race victory and World Supersport championship at Magny Cours.

Pitt didn’t have it all his own awy, as team-mate Jonathan Rea took the lead from the start. Barry Veneman then got involved with the battle for the lead and lead for a few laps.

By lap eight the leading group consisted of Veneman, Pitt, Rea, Broc Parkes, Diddier Van Keymeulen and Robin Harms and all six leading racers were riding for the victory.

On lap 10 Robin Harms made an effort to pass Brock Parkes at the hairpin, but clipped the back wheel of Rea in the process who was running in third and also took out Broc Parkes. The incident put paid to any chance Jonathan Rea had of beating Pitt to the championship.

Rea and Harms remounted to finish 10th and 15th respectively.

Stiggy Motorsport Honda rider Josh Brookes was able to capitalise on the incident as he moved up to third.

Pitt then stretched out a slight lead ahead of Veneman. With Veneman claiming his first ever World Supersport podium in second place.

Josh Brookes almost missed out on the final step of the podium when local boy Matthew Lagrive made an attempt to pass, but went in to the corner too fast.
