The new Maxtra 125 team, spearheaded by British legend John Surtees, continued its 2009 recruitment drive in Indianapolis last weekend.

Team boss and former factory Suzuki chief Garry Taylor was in Indianapolis for more talks with potential riders, having started discussions in Misano last month.

No details of potential targets have been released for the Chinese-inspired project, which has technical involvement of former Aprilia engine guru Jan Witteveen and British chassis experts Harris Performance.

But Red Bull Rookie’s Cup rider Matt Hoyle is somebody known to have caught Taylor’s eye.

“Talks are progressing and we are hoping to be able to finalise both riders before or at least soon after the end of the season, “Taylor told MCN. Taylor has been getting advice from Dani Pedrosa’s manager Alberto Puig given the Spaniard’s vast knowledge of the 125cc class.

But Taylor added: “The objective is still to find an experienced rider who has the ability to develop the bike, but crucially also has circuit knowledge.”
