BRANDS HATCH, KENT, SATURDAY-SUNDAY

Jason Davis made a dream start to his final season of racing with a superb double victory in the National 250 Grand Prix series at the NG road races at Brands Hatch.

Davis backed up a dominant win over Mark Davies and Richard Grinling on Saturday with an equally comfortable triumph on Sunday. Starting from second on the grid Grinling got the holeshot but Davis was in front by the time they got to druids, by half distance the lead was up to four seconds and soon afterwards the result never looked in doubt.

“It’s never easy but I was well within my limits” said the 38 year-old Chester Firefighter. “This is the result of four months hard work, I’ve trained hard and the bike is superb so it’s a great result”

Richard Cooper dominated the Open and Powerbike classes on his new 09 long-bang R1 Yamaha with six wins from six starts. He scythed his way through from the back of the grid in Sunday’s opening Powerbike event giving everyone a free riding lesson along the way. Reigning club champion Joe Symonds was expected to be a threat until a heavy fall on the warm-up ruled him out.

Two teenagers made the headlines in the smaller classes. 14 year old Corey Lewis completed a clean sweep in the 125 class while 15 year-old Danny Buchan was just as impressive in the Formula 400’s on his ZXR Kawasaki, winning three times including a sensational overall 400 win in the final outing of the weekend ahead of the Grand Prix 2-strokes of Mike Russell, Dave Hampton and Tony Davies.

BISHOPSCOURT, CO DOWN, SATURDAY

Big Bike Specialist Shaun Anderson was among five double winners on Saturday when the Irish clubmans short circuit championship burst into life at Bishopscourt, Co Down.

A 24 year old research engineer, Anderson couldn’t hide his delight after winning the two open races.

“What a way to start only my second season of racing” said Anderson. “I was second quickest to Gavin Johnston in qualifying and I was quietly confident of being up at the front but to get two wins has got to be something special”.

In the first race Anderson found himself under pressure from Johnston who briefly took the lead on the last lap.

“Both of us were confronted by a fallen rider as well as several back markers but I could sense that a win was possible and I went for it” explained Anderson who beat Johnston by 1.2 seconds with Jason Cash third.

Then in the second outing it was Cash who made life difficult at the halfway stage for Anderson who ended up with a comfortable six seconds winning advantage.

CADWELL PARK, LINCS, SUNDAY

Auto 66 certainly got off to a flying start with their racing season with a Spring opener at the Lincolnshire track where cool dry conditions were the main feature for the riders and race starved enthusiasts.

Doncaster’s top racer Mick Goodings  chalked up an F400 hat-trick in front of Bob Farrington, Aaron Hooper but the latter pair were ever present. Winterton racer Grahame Frear had no fears about the dark when he blasted to victory in the failing light at the Louth circuit in the final Cadwell Masters battle. The race actually started at 18.04 by which time if Cadwell had any street lights they would be on!

One item worth noting, the F125 entry was up and running with some hot boys on the track but none hotter than Lincoln’s Lee Jackson with three wins and three fastest laps. The local rider was roughly four seconds a lap faster than his rivals
