Queue chaos at Donington MotoGP

There were chaotic scenes at Donington Park as the number of fans arriving for MotoGP qualifying took organisers by surprise.

Fans collecting or buying tickets at the venue faced massive queues at the box offices and then another huge wait – which reports say reached 2.5 hours at their peak – to get through the gates in to the circuit.

“The queue was the length of the car park,” said MotoGP fan Mike Lines, 45 from Chippenham. “We couldn’t believe how long we had to wait. We queued past gates that were locked. We hope they have it sorted for tomorrow.”

Howard Wood, from Wakefield, said: “If Donington are wanting to put big events on here, they are going to have to do better. It was so disorganised this morning, the queues were ridiculous.”

John McRee, spokesman for Donington Park, said: “We were surprised by the unprecedented levels of people walking in to buy tickets.”

Once they realised there was a Donington’s managers had a meeting to find a solution and doubled the number of staff in the ticket offices.

They have also put in place a contingency plan to ensure the same thing does not happen again on race day, Sunday July 26.
