Laguna Seca to stage Moto2 and 125 class in 2011?

Laguna Seca could soon play host to the full MotoGP schedule with plans under discussion to run the Moto2 and 125GP races in California next year.

Ever since Laguna Seca returned to the Grand Prix calendar in 2005, it has been for the MotoGP class only.

A comprehensive support race programme has been provided by a full American superbike championship schedule.

But all three world championship classes could be on the schedule next season as part of plans to run both American races next to each other in 2011.

MotoGP teams are facing hefty freight and travel bills to get their equipment from California to the Czech Republic race in Brno for the next clash before shipping everything back to America for the Indianapolis round on August 29.

Laguna Seca and Indianapolis could now be run as back-to-back races in 2011 or with just one weekend off in between to save costs.

Indianapolis runs the full MotoGP schedule and a revamp of the calendar could see the entire Grand Prix schedule run at Laguna Seca too, or certainly MotoGP and Moto2.

Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta said: “We are talking with officials from both tracks to perhaps have both American races closer together. And if that is the case then we would look at bringing Moto2 and 125s to Laguna if that was possible.”

One issue with hosting a full world championship schedule at Laguna Seca is the limited paddock space. While any revamp would also have to agreed with the AMA series.
