Valentino Rossi has urged close pal Marco Simoncelli to take time to analyse why he has having such a baptism of fire in MotoGP, Rossi has tipped his compatriot to emerge as a major future star in MotoGP.

But two huge crashes in winter testing at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia and a woeful lack of speed have left the former world 250GP champion languishing way off the pace.

Rossi, who regularly goes motocross riding with Simoncelli in Italy, told MCN said:  “I think that Simoncelli is in a bad condition now because he goes slow and he’s already had two big crashes and in both he hit his head on the asphalt.

“I think he needs to stay quiet and understand why. For me he has good potential and its possible he will become one of the protagonists of MotoGP. But he has to understand why he goes slow and crashes.”
