Australia Moto2: De Angelis secures second win of season

1 of 1

Alex de Angelis (JIR Moto2) secured victory at Phillip Island for the second consecutive year after emerging on top in a battle with championship leader Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing). Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol) managed an impressive performance to take third after starting from the back of the grid after being penalised for colliding with Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda Singha-SAG) at the end of the first practice session on Friday.

Having started on pole de Angelis took the lead, before being passed by Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing), who was then displaced by Pol Espargaró (HP Tuenti Speed Up). Bradl took the lead on the fifth lap, where he remained until de Angelis managed to snatch victory on the last lap.

Márquez made a very strong start that propelled the Spaniard from thirty-eighth on the grid into the mid-field. Eventually passing Claudio Corti (Italtrans Racing) for third, Márquez  battled with the Italian and finally crossed the line ahead, securing a podium finish.

Pol Espargaró (HP Tuenti Speed Up) took fifth finishing ahead of Kenan Sofuoglu (Technomag-CIP) and Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) in seventh. Andrea Iannone (Speed Master) took eighth, whilst Mike di Meglio (Tech 3 Racing) and Yuki Takahashi (Gresini Racing) completed the top ten.
