Suzuki could be back on the MotoGP grid with a new factory GSV-R 1000cc machine as early as 2013.

Veteran Japanese test rider Nobuatsu Aoki confirmed in Sepang last week that he was testing Suzuki’s new 1000cc project recently at the Ryuyo test track in Japan.

He hinted that if testing was successful then Suzuki would possibly consider selected wild card entries during 2013.

“Suzuki has never stopped working on a 1000cc project and I rode the bike last week. I can’t say too much but if the bike is going well and there is a budget then maybe it could race next year, “said Aoki.

The Japanese factory suspended its MotoGP project last November having been severely affected by the global economic crisis.

Suzuki intends to return to action in 2014.

Suzuki’s MotoGP effort was run by Briton Paul Denning and Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta confirmed to MCN recently: “Paul told me they are looking seriously to have a bike for 2014 and if they come they will be very welcome.”
