Danny Kent splashed his way to the fastest Moto3 time at a wet and cold Silverstone this morning to make the perfect start to his home race.

The Red Bull KTM rider clocked a best lap of 2.37.401 to beat Australian team-mate Arthur Sissis by 0.674s.

Sissis escaped injury in a late crash to post a best time of 2.38.075 that put him 0.053s clear of Efren Vazquez.

World championship leader Sandro Cortese was fourth fastest with a best of 2.38.637 while Catalunya winner and title favourite Maverick Vinales was eighth.

Wild card John McPhee was 13th fastest with a best of 2.40.008 and Fraser Rogers in 23rd with a quickest pace of 2.42.677.

Mahindra rider Danny Webb was trailing down in a lowly 26th. He only managed four laps after crashing out early in treacherous conditions. The Kent rider was unhurt in the spill.
