Cal Crutchlow to attend Argentina MotoGP test

British rider Cal Crutchlow will be Yamaha’s representative during a special promotional tour and test session at the new Circuito Internacional Termas de Río Hondo track in Argentina in early July.

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team rider will fly straight to South America following the Assen MotoGP race in Holland to take part in a special visit to Argentina that includes a two-day test at the new track, which joins the MotoGP calendar in 2014.

MCN understands that each manufacturer will send one representative, with Alvaro Bautista flying the Honda flag and Italian Andrea Dovizioso attending on behalf of Ducati. Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez will not attend.

Three CRT teams are also believed to have committed to send one rider, with Forward Racing, Avintia Blusens and Came Ioda Racing involved in the on and off track promotional activity.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team boss Herve Poncharal confirmed to MCN this morning that 27-year-old Crutchlow will make the trip, and he will test his YZR-M1 1000cc machine at the new Circuito Internacional Termas de Río Hondo and not a production model.

Poncharal told MCN: “There is huge enthusiasm in Argentina for MotoGP. All three factories will be represented and Cal will go on behalf of Yamaha. Cal is a very popular figure now in MotoGP and it is going to be good to be involved in such an important promotional activity for a key market like South America.

“Technically we won’t be able to learn a lot apart from the gearbox and some other data but it is a significant trip for the promotional activity.

“The people in Argentina are very keen to see the bikes and talk to the riders and it is going to be a very good promotion for MotoGP where there is a lot of enthusiasm and expectation for the sport.”
