Forward boss regrets missing Sam Lowes Moto2 deal

Forward Racing boss Giovanni Cuzari has spoken of his regret at missing out on the opportunity to sign new World Supersport champion Sam Lowes for his Italian-based squad in 2014.

Lowes was the number one target for the Forward Racing squad, which will run two-rider efforts in both MotoGP and Moto2 next season.

But the British rider, who also negotiated with Danny Kent’s current Tech 3 Racing Moto2 squad, will move to a Speed Up operation run by ex-250GP racer Luca Boscoscuro.

It was initially thought Lowes would have to remain in World Superbikes next season, given he was locked into a deal with his current Russian-based Yakhnich Motorsport squad.

After wrapping up the World Supersport title in France earlier this month though he immediately announced he will be switching to Moto2.

Cuzari, who will run Aleix Espargaro and most likely Colin Edwards on a non-factory Yamaha YZR-M1 engine and chassis package in MotoGP next year, was confident he would be able to sign Lowes for his Moto2 project.

But he told MCN: “He was my preferred choice but Boscoscuro was unfortunately faster than me to sign an agreement. One rider for sure will be Simone Corsi and I am still looking around for the second one, but it would have been great to be with Lowes.”
