Cal Crutchlow preparing for winter arm surgery

Cal Crutchlow has revealed he will require end of season surgery on the right arm that he damaged in the first of three fast crashes during a disastrous home round at Silverstone earlier this month.

Crutchlow’s right arm swelled to twice its normal size after he suffered a crash at over 180mph in the third practice session at the British Grand Prix.
The injury has been slow to heal ever since and although the swelling reduced during last weekend’s Misano MotoGP round, the 27-year-old still had a lot of fluid retention on his right arm.

And after finishing fourth quickest in a one-day test on Monday he revealed he will need to undergo surgery after making his Ducati debut in the traditional test that takes immediately after the final race in Valencia in November.

Crutchlow said: “It is a bit swollen but I don’t feel it on the bike and I have no excuse to ride s**t. I will need an operation on it at the end of the year because there is a blockage somewhere and the fluid won’t come out. Even when they go to drain it they can’t go deep enough to get it all out.”
