British rider Gino Rea has been forced to sit out this week’s three-day official Moto2 test at Jerez, after breaking a bone in his foot at last week’s Valencia test.

The former Moto2 podium finisher broke his fourth metatarsal on the second day of three at Valencia last week, but was still able to compete the final day, lapping as quickly as before as the team continues to make improvements to his Suter machine.

Despite remaining able to ride the machine, admittedlystruggling through left hand corners, Rea says that a desire to get fully fit prompted his decision to sit out the Jerez test.

“I could have got to Jerez and rode through the pain, as the pain isn’t really that bad, but I’d rather give it a chance to heal. I need to let it be fully fit for the last test before the first round, and it’s only a few weeks from then until the first round in Qatar.”

“I’ve been using all the techniques I can to heal up quickly; I’m still keeping it elevated at night, working with a TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) machine at home and visiting the hyperbaric chamber regularly. It seems to be healing up quite quickly, though, so I think I’m going in the right direction.”
