Qatar Moto2: Nakagami fastest with last minute lap

A race to the chequered flag with the fastest Moto2 lap of the day has left Honda Asia rider Takaai Nakagami top of the time sheets after the opening day at Qatar, with the Japanese rider finishing up the day on a 2’00.522 lap.

Tito Rabat was only 0.052 behind, though, with former Moto3 champion Sandro Cortese only a further 0.095 behind that; only a second covered the top 15 in the notoriously close class.

Mika Kallio had a disappointing second session, dropping down to 11st after finishing the first outing on track in provisional pole.

Gino Rea improved on his morning time to finish in 26th as the Londoner continues to recover from a broken foot, while Sam Lowes was 25th, with a fast crash half way through the session reducing his time on track.
