Scott Redding gutted to miss out on preferred crew chief

Scott Redding has admitted he had a lump in his throat when he realised that his number one crew chief option for 2015 was not available.

The 21-year-old was hoping to work with Casey Stoner’s ex-Ducati and Repsol Honda crew chief Cristian Gabbarini next season when he will ride a factory RC213V in the Marc VDS Racing squad.

Redding was eager to work with highly respected Italian Gabbarini, having worked together this season for the first time.

Gabbarini has overseen the new production Honda RCV1000R project in 2014 and Redding had made him first choice to be his crew chief next season.

But Gabbarini will make a return to LCR Honda next season and work with rising Aussie star Jack Miller, who will partner Cal Crutchlow in Lucio Cecchinello’s squad.
Redding told MCN: “The difficult part now is getting the crew together. Most of the good guys are already taken so we need to make sure we make the right decision because it is crucial to have the right guys behind you.

“Cristian was my number one choice and that was my plan for a long time, so I didn’t really think about anybody else. Then he told me he is going to work with Jack and that put a bit of a lump in my throat.”
