Carl Rennie gets Phase One roads ride

Carl Rennie will lead the Phase One Endurance Yamaha challenge for the honours at the TT and NW200 this year.

Rennie, who finished fifth in last year’s Senior, will compete in all the solo classes on Phase One Bikes.

Rennie said: “I am delighted to have been offered this opportunity by Russell and the Phase One Yamaha Team to join them for the 2010 season.

“I feel with the experience, knowledge and quality of the machinery Phase One have, I will be able to compete at the highest level.

“I am looking forward to working closely with the team throughout 2010.”

Team Manager Russell Benney added “For the big classes we are delighted to be able to run Carl on the same R1 that James Ellison used to pole with at the Qatar Eight Hours in November.

“For the other races we shall build new machinery to Carl’s requirements and for that part of the project we are seeking interest from partners who may wish to be involved.”

Phase one will also run a second rider in at least two of the races and the team is inviting interest from appropriate riders for these slots.

It is the team’s intention to improve on the top ten results it achieved in 2008 with Steve Plater (eight in Superstock) and Michael Dunlop (tenth in the Senior).

Benney certainly thinks that Rennie is the man to do just that.

He said: ” At the TT Carl is considered to be amongst the very best of the privateers and since his debut in 1997 he has achieved a host of top eight results, culminating in last year’s fifth place, and that on a Superstock bike!

“This experience is just what the team needs to hoist itself into the top six positions that it is aiming for in 2010.”

The team will start testing at Albacete in March.
