John McGuinness will be joined by nine-time TT winner Bruce Anstey for 2014, as the Mugen look to wrestle away the TT Zero title from arch-rivals MotoCzysz.
The TT Zero electric race has risen in importance dramatically since it was first started, with the fastest machines now lapping at a similar pace to some of the 650cc Supertwin bikes.
The race has been won three times by the American MotoCzysz team, with Mark Miller and Michael Rutter, but a serious effort was launched by the Honda-backed Mugen team in 2011 with TT hero McGuinness onboard. Despite finishing second twice to Rutter, speeds have increased as the competition does, with 2013 seeing the average lap record ride from 100mph to 110mph.
A spokesman for the team said “we are extremely excited to have secured the services of two such experienced proven winners around the TT mountain course, and the team will be pulling out all the stops to provide them with the machinery to go for the first TT Zero victory for TEAM MUGEN.”
No further details of the bike are yet available, but the team have confirmed it will be revealed later in the Spring.
