Former MCE British Superbike racer Peter Hickman has spelled out his intentions at the Isle of Man TT by setting some of the fastest times every recorded by a newcomer to the event as he went on to take an excellent 14th place in his debut race.
Starting the Superbike TT from 25th after setting the fastest ever time for a newcomer on the opening night (at 115.103mph), he was then able to up his lap time to an incredible 126.195mph on the Ice Valley BMW, to make his first TT replica a silver and not a bronze.
Speaking after the race, Hickman said “I’m delighted with this result, this place is awesome and for me to finish 14th on a Superstock machine in a grid full of Superbikes is amazing. I would have been pleased if I had won a bronze replica but to win a silver is something else; I am over the moon. I have to say a big thank you to [team boss] Shoey and the team plus Dazza J, Kev and Sezza for their hard work and support.”
With another two races left to run - the superstock and Senior TTs - it looks like the newcomer’s lap record set last year by Josh Brookes at 127.726mph is in serious danger as Hickman continues to learn the track and goes faster through the week.
