TT 2014: Dunlop takes second supersport race with another domineering performance

Michael Dunlop on his MD Racing 600 Honda, continued his domination at the Isle of Man TT today taking a flag to flag win in the Monster Energy sponsored Supersport Race 2.  Dunlop led at the first timing point on Lap 1 and continued to build on his lead, passing Guy Martin on the road before the end of the first lap to ensure his second win of the week.

By Ramsey on lap 2 Dunlop had caught 2nd placed Valvoline by Padgett’s rider Anstey on the road and was happy to sit behind him until the end of the race thus ensuring the 10 second time difference was maintained – although Anstey conceded his lead at the line to allow Dunlop P1 across the line.

In 3rd place throughout the race was William Dunlop on his Tyco Suzuki, after he was able to extend his lead over his Tyco team mate Martin as they left the pits together after a quick Dunlop pit stop.

Drama unfolded in the pits later though as the machine ridden by Grant Wagstaff caught fire while being refuelled but was promptly and safely dealt with by the attendant fire marshals.

Early retirements in the race included Conor Cummins and Ian Hutchinson who both failed to make the first timing point on Lap 1 while Josh Brookes and Lee Johnston who were battling for 5th place both came off and retired in an incident at Creg nay Baa on the last lap but were reported to be unhurt.

At the line, leader on the road Anstey moved over and let Dunlop take the chequered flag first thus winning the race and also the battle for the 10th TT win as they were both on nine wins prior to the race start.

Dunlop commented afterwards “I just kept my head down and caught Bruce and that’s all I had to do.  Bruce had a better pit stop and I lost a few seconds there but I just caught him back, sat there and didn’t need to go any faster”
