Isle of Man TT and Macau Grand Prix veteran Jeremy Toye has taken victory in the annual Pike Peak International Hill Climb, setting one of the fastest ever two wheeled laps of the 12.42 mile mountain road on a Kawasaki ZX-10. Toye was riding for an official Kawasaki USA team, as part of the continuing celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the Ninja.
Fellow TT racer Guy Martin was less fortunate, however, finishing back in 21st on his homebuilt and heavily modified Suzuki GSX-R1100. Martin suffered from mechanical issues during qualifying as he struggled to tame the turbocharged 320bhp machine, eventually finishing with a time of 11:32.6 – over a minute and a half down on Toye.
However, the event ended in tragedy when Texan racer Bobby Goodin crashed as he crossed the finish line and was fatally injured. MCN send their deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mr Goodin.
