Hickman and Hamilton out of Macau GP after qualifying crash

Peter Hickman’s dream of becoming the fastest ever newcomer in all four of the major International road races appears to be over after he crashed out of the opening qualifying session on his Ice Valley BMW on the final lap.

“The radiator was leaking water and I slid off into a wall on the top section.” the Louth man explained afterwards.

“The frame is cracked so unless we can find a new one from somewhere this evening I am out of the race.”

Northern Ireland’s Jamie Hamilton, who was just behind Hickman, also slid off on the fluid and he is also out of the event after mangling the front forks and yokes of his Craig Honda. Both riders were unhurt in the crashes.

Hickman had already established himself as the fastest newcomer in history at the North West 200, the Isle of Man TT and the Ulster Grand Prix in 2014 and he was credited with 11th fastest time of the day in Macau in spite of the crash.
