Following reports in the National press suggesting that Donington Park will lose the 2010 Formula One race, the Leicestershire circuit has been granted a two week extension by F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone to prove the necessary funding is in place.

With its F1 future hanging in the balance next years WSB and BSB races could also be in jeopardy if the circuit is not completed on time and to the agreed standard.

Chief Executive of Donington Ventures Leisure Limited, Simon Gillett said: “We can confirm that Donington Ventures Leisure Limited has another two weeks from today to further demonstrate our credentials for hosting the British Formula One Grand Prix and to provide full information regarding our financial backing and construction timescales.

We have made great strides in recent weeks and greatly appreciate the additional time allowed to us to finalise the information for public distribution in what has been a much more difficult than anticipated economic climate.

We appreciate the British publics’ growing frustration with regard to uncertainty that has been cast over the country’s largest and most successful motorsport event, but remain committed to delivering on the promises that we made at the start of this process and have the interests of the sport and its fan is at heart.”

What do you think? Will Donington Park be finished in time for the WSB race on 1st August and the BSB race on 12th September?
