WSS Miller: Laverty in dominant mood at Miller

Eugene Laverty continued to humiliate his World Supersport rivals by setting provisional pole and a new circuit best lap at the end of day one of action at Miller Motorsports Park.

The Parkalgar Honda rider has won the last three races and clearly has no intention of slowing up in his quest to become World Champion.

He said: “It was good to get a 1m51s lap. First I got a 1m51.9s and then I managed a 1m51.6s lap and thought no-one would beat that today so stayed out and got a better understanding of the feeling of my Parkalgar Honda. I knew I could do a quick lap this morning but to set the quickest ever Supersport lap here was excellent this afternoon.

“Miller Motorsports Park suits the Honda and my riding style very well, especially the first part of the lap which is fast and flowing; I enjoy riding here. I think the others are now playing catch up. Kenan is a bit behind but he did the same last year and was a full second a lap faster in the race; saying that I think I have moved the goalposts and I am pushing the other riders hard.”

Second place went to Spaniard Joan Lascorz onboard the factory Kawasaki ahead of fellow Spaniard David Salom. Frenchman Fabien Foret claimed fourth to make it two Kawasaki’s on the front row. Championship leader and 2009 race winner Kenan Sofuoglu finished sixth.

Chaz Davies consolidated his eighth position from Free practice to secure his place on the provisional second row, with Gino Rea in 12th.
