British Superbike sensation Alex Lowes will ride for the Castrol Honda team in World Superbike as a replacement for the injured Jonathan Rea.

The 20 year old from Lincoln will line up for his first ever WSB race at Brno on 8th to 10th July before getting the chance to compete in front of his home crowd when the world championship heads to Silverstone on 28th to 30th July.

Lowes hit the headlines this season following his stunning rides in the BSB with the WFR team and onboard the MSS Colchester Kawasaki as a replacement for the injured Stuart Easton, where he secured pole position first time out at Thruxton.

Despite his age, Lowes has not only proved his ability to adapt to new surroundings with his performances in BSB, he also has experience of the WSB paddock. In 2008 he finished second in the Superstock 600 race at Donington before competing in selected rounds of the Superstock 1000 championship in 2009.

Super sub Lowes will stand in for Castrol Honda’s number one rider Rea, who suffered a heavy 145mph crash in morning warm-up at Misano ten days ago.

Rea suffered a broken radius bone in his wrist, fractured collarbone and metatarsal along with his most serious injury, a ruptured ligament in his wrist which required surgery and external pins.

An official announcement is expected today.
