Camier sets sights on Assen return

After sustaining a serious cut to his knee in a qualifying crash at Aragon one week ago, Fixi Crescent Suzuki rider Leon Camier is focussed on making an incredible return to racing action next weekend in round three of the World Superbike Championship at Assen.

Camier underwent surgery on the cut in Spain immediately after the accident with a number of internal stitches to repair the damage, but with each day that passes the risk of infection reduces, which was the primary concern of the injury.

Having initially been fitted with a splint to stop his knee bending, this has now been removed and the 26 year old has been left with a brace to restrict movement in an effort to aid the healing process.

Should Camier make it back for Assen he will be joined by former 500GP race winner Simon Crafar in the Crescent Fixi Suzuki team garage.

Crafar has been a long time friend of Camier with the two men, who both live in Andorra often training and riding trials bikes together.

However Crafar will join the team in a professional capacity at all European races to assist both Camier and his impressive young team-mate Jules Cluzel with their on track riding.

Crafar said: “I’m not trying to coach these riders, because they are way past that. I am just an extra set of eyes around the circuit. I try to pick up on areas where I think I can help them improve.

“A rider can sometimes get stuck to a particular line and I can see them from a different angle.

“I assess their positioning on the track in relation to other guys out there but sometimes it’s as simple as changing the priority of the corners to gain a couple of tenth’s.

“After watching closely I believe very strongly in the ability of both Leon and Jules, so I am looking forward to helping them and the team achieve the great results I am very sure they are capable of.”
