Lowes hits early high

Among a short handful of WSB riders who were taking their first experiences of the Laguna Seca circuit this weekend Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) did best of all after one day, in fifth place after first qualifying.

He found a lot of similarities to the kind of tracks he learned to ride on, learning well enough to win the BSB Championship in 2013. “It is like everything, it is never like you expect after seeing it on TV,” said Lowes.

“I think coming from the BSB tracks you are prepared for anything. After Cadwell Park and Oulton Park you are prepared for it. Even The Corkscrew does not feel as bad as it looks when you walk it. It’s actually quite fun!

“It is the bit before when you come through and the bike drops down as you come up the hill, that is the bit that is harder to get used to because you cannot see anything. It is a good track. When I get up to speed it should suit me.”

With his bike being either working well or not well in 2014, frustratingly sometimes round-by-round at times, Lowes thinks this is a better one for his GSX-R.

“The bike is good but it is always hard when you do not know where you are going. We are running a setting from last round in Portugal, as the software is so different to last year, it is not relevant. It is a fresh start so it is a bit more difficult when you do not know what to compare it to.”
