Bogumil Kusiba has just passed his bike test for the 33bhp restricted licence and he wants to trade in his Honda Varadero 125.
“It’s a great bike, however due to my high commuter mileage, 54 miles each way, mainly motorway. my Varadero is struggling and I am concerned that it may be too many miles for such a small engine.”
The sort of bike he is looking to replace it with would have some weather protection for wet winter motorways, be low maintenance, kind on insurance and not cost “an arm and a leg”.
If he wants decent weather protection, then one of these bikes are probably the best bet as they can all be restricted. They are: Honda Deauville, Suzuki V-Strom 650, Honda Transalp or Kawasaki ER-6F. The Deauville benefits from shaft-drive and you can get one for £1700, while the newer V-Stroms start at £3000, a ER-6F on motorcyclenews.com is £2695 and the cheapest 650 Transalps are less than two grand.
All these bikes are in similar insurance classes so they cost about the same to insure through MCN compare.
